Audio of my sermon

Earlier on the blog, I talked about my first sermon at Pasadena Mennonite Church on 12/31/06 (see the previous posts here and here). Now you can listen to it online. First is the Scripture reading by David Gist of Luke 4:41-52. Then my sermon, which is about 20 minutes. The text is on the boy Jesus in the Temple and the theme of the sermon basically comes down to: Whom will you obey? And to whom or what will you be dedicated?

For those who actually listen to it, feel free to leave whatever comments or questions you have. I’m a beginner (I’ve never taken homiletics) and I’m always open to getting better.

  1. Good sermon, Pat. My favorite book on it was called (I think) “Preaching” by Craddock. I forget the author’s first name.

I hope I spelled the last name right even, but I remember that particular edition was a white book with the word “Preaching” written in red script on the front. Very simple design.

Check it out sometime, it was super helpful.

I do have one constructive bit of advice, not that I’m a preacher anymore myself of course — just some agnostic ex-Christian — but I remember well that course in seminary and one good nugget. I’d write it, but I’m kinda tired, so maybe when we next chat over the phone.

    Anyway, good job, dude!

So I got something wrong with my sermon, but I can’t know what it is yet. Way to put me on the edge!

Just kidding. Thanks for the kudos, brother. It means a lot coming from you.

[BTW, I didn't realize you got a blogger blog. Cool.]
