I remember, back in 1999-2000, when there was serious talk of changing Messiah’s name to “Grantham University.” My then girlfriend, who was a student at Messiah, and I must admit myself, thought that this was clearly the first step down the slippery slope that leads to secularization. But then, Jon Stewart wasn’t yet making fun of the school’s lovely name in this unbearably smug way.
