		<description>Thanks Pat.  I almost wonder if it does not have to be one or the other but can be a case of both/and.  Perhaps Jesus used it as a simple Aramaic idiom but later saw in Daniel 7 a script for his own mission - both suffering as the representative of Israel under the beast and then his vindication.  Since the coming Son of Man sayings are multiply attested (Mark 13:26; 14:62; Matt 24:27, 37-39/Luke 17:24, 26-27, 30; Matt 13:40-43; Luke 21:34-36; 1 Thess 4:16), either Jesus made this move or it was made very early on among Jewish believers.</description>
