Need Advice: My Wife Wants to Start Blogging

My wife would like to start a blog, including purchasing a domain and finding a host, so that she can include advertising. Her blog would be based mostly on breastfeeding and maybe some other things about mothering–she is a public health dietitian specializing in pediatric nutrition and is also a Certified Lactation Educator.

I have a few questions about the best way to do this:

  1. What is the best way to purchase a domain? (I went through WordPress)
  2. What is the best way to host a domain? (looking for cheap, but reliable)
  3. What are the best sources of advertising or otherwise making a couple bucks on a blog (I know this is not a big issue on biblical studies blogs)? I know about AdSense and Amazon Affiliates. What else is there?

Thanks!

    Hi Patrick,

I am not sure if they will support outside Canada, but I use http://hostpapa.ca/ (HostPapa) which was recommended to me by a colleague of mine who is a techie! For revenue, some webpages allow you to put a Paypal functionality, so your wife could have modules or courses and have students pay a given amount per module. I have a webpage (www.helfield.com) that is a moodle page and I could put a paypal button on my courses if I wanted (but how many people would pay for ancient history? lol).

    Hope this helps,

I used namecheap.com for my domain… haven’t gotten around to hosting yet.

    1.) Godaddy
    2.) Godaddy

3.) As far as advertising? I would go through Adsense and Amazon, but also contact the companies and see they would be willing to advertise.
