Another Crazy Wedding Moment with Pat

I am not afraid to make a fool of myself and let it be known. On my About Pat page, you can find two videos of some crazy wedding moments, including one of me dancing to some Will Smith (my wedding) and another of me singing a song on demand with friends (my friend Matt’s wedding). Not too long ago, another video surfaced of me (and friends) at another friend’s wedding. We adapted U2′s “With or Without You” to apply to our friend Tom, who was finally getting married after years of calling himself a “bachelor till the rapture.”

I should note that Tom tried to give me this title when I became single at the beginning of my senior year of college, but I raised theological concerns and so he dropped it :)   Since the song has interesting implications for apocalyptic eschatology, I thought I would share it (this is a thinly veiled excuse to share such silliness). Here goes:

This quartet consists of the three groomsmen and best man. From left to right: Bob (Tom’s friend from Uganda) is on bass, Ryan (best man, former roommate) is on lead vocals, Matt (former roommate) is on the two note vocal synthesizer, and I (former roommate) am on vocal percussion.

And here are the lyrics, mostly written by Matt and his wife, Emily:

Bachelor ‘til the Rapture

Never thought we’d see the day
The great Tom Kline has fallen prey
To a girl! Who’d think it?

He claimed he’d never fall away
Insisted he could not be swayed
By a girl! Rethink it!

Bachelor ‘til the rapture!
Bachelor ‘til the rapture!

When we complained of women’s wiles,
Tom Kline would answer with a smile,
‘Dating girls? Who needs it?’

Bachelor ‘til the rapture!
Bachelor ‘til the rapture, ah!
What happened to, ‘bachelor ‘til the rapture’?

But he gave it up today
But he gave it up today
But he gave,
Yes he gave,
Yes he gave it up today

He’s Beth’s ever after
He’s Beth’s ever after, ah
Bachelor no more, he’s Beth’s ever after

Ha-oh-oh-oh
Ha-oh-oh-oh
Ha-oh-oh-oh

Bachelor ‘til the rapture?
No, Beth’s ever after, ah
Bachelor no more, he’s Beth’s ever after [end]
